June 21st, 2009 -- Posted in Herbal Remedies, Natural Detox Remedies, Natural Remedies | No Comments »

An inert digestive system can be a key cause of dampening your spirits at times. Since the system plays a key role in the natural elimination of toxins, any kind of malfunctioning can lead to an accumulation of toxins in the body.

Man has played truant with regards to environment conservation. We have also taken an undue advantage of the body and literally abused it by maintaining unhealthy lifestyles. With every passing day the environment is getting more and more polluted and lifestyles are becoming increasingly inactive. These toxins that are getting concentrated in our environment and the food that we eat get into our bodies and put a heavy burden on the natural processes. When overloaded, the human detoxification system tends to break down.

The detoxification process is not one that involves taking a pill and getting back to unhealthy ways. It is a permanent process that requires a considerable change in lifestyle. A proper detoxification program ensures that once the body has regained equilibrium, it should be maintained. Home remedies for body detox are very effective in the continuing process of detoxification. Such home remedies include herbs, healthy diet and exercise. These are very effective in stimulating the digestive system for optimum performance.

Water is one of the most effective detox remedies and should be a part of any specific detox treatment. Intake of a certain amount of water in the morning is essential to pep up a sluggish digestive system. Water can be very effective in flushing out a large amount of toxins. If there is inadequate intake of water, the dehydrated body tends to draw water from the blood. This puts a fair amount of pressure on the heart and also reduces the purifying capacity of the kidneys.

Besides drinking plenty of water you should also incorporate an herbal detox diet in your daily routine. Some of the herbs that can be added to your food or had otherwise as supplements are:

1. Dandelion – The backbone of detox herbs since ages, it is known for its properties of effectively removing toxins from every cell in the body.
2. Licorice root - It is an antioxidant that stimulates kidney and liver functions.
3. Cascara Sagrada and Psyllium seeds - Both are very effective laxatives.
4. Milk Thistle - Helpful in repairing any liver damage due to alcohol.

To continue your personal natural detox program you require simple diet modifications that include certain fruits and vegetables. These fruits and vegetables provide sufficient nutrition and have detoxification properties too.

Fruit and vegetables juices are natural cleansers and supply vitamins, minerals, enzymes and fats in a form that is easy to absorb. An only juice-diet for a week can ensure allows the body to clean itself in a natural way.

Asparagus, parsley, spinach and sweet potatoes have excellent diuretic and laxative properties that help in eliminating toxins from the body. Sweet potato contains substances that assist in binding the food together and later pass out harmful metals that enter the body. The chlorophyll rich parsley aids in muscle contractions of the alimentary canal (peristalsis).

Relying only on a detox product for a limited period alone will not help you in sustained detoxification. A natural detox program is incomplete without exercise and lifestyle modifications. Simple breathing exercises and regular workouts remove stress.

Considering the present environment it is imperative that the process of detoxification is made a part of life.

How a detox homeopathic kit can help in detoxification

June 21st, 2009 -- Posted in Herbal Remedies, Natural Detox Remedies, Natural Remedies | No Comments »

Despite a proven track record, homeopathy remains an underrated therapy. One of the major reasons for the situation that homeopathy is in, is the lack of funding for medical homeopathy research and the inability to patent its natural products.

Homeopathy is a complex medical system that believes that the core condition needs to be treated. The discipline does not treat symptoms alone but attacks the basic cause of the condition. Practitioners of homeopathy believe in prescribing remedies based on individual symptoms. They also take into account the overall personality of the patient. These are then correlated with a well documented list of symptoms that a particular remedy produces in a healthy person. The medicines themselves are prepared based on a complex procedure of dilution that is used to arrive at the desired potency.

What is not commonly known is that homeopathy is also a simple method of natural treatment. If you understand the manner in which the medication works, you can use a basic set of 26 remedies to manage routine discomforts arising from common ailments like cough could, insect bites, minor injuries and shock.

Similarly a set of homeopathic remedies can be used effectively for natural detox to help in the elimination of toxins from the body. A homeopathic detox treatment attempts to rectify the root cause behind the accumulation of toxins. The causes could be a sluggish digestive system, a malfunctioning kidney, lungs or liver damage due to excessive use of recreational drugs.

Homeopathic remedies can be classified as herbal detox since all the medicines are purely natural. These detox remedies can be used individually or collectively to provide a good detoxification solution.

Ideally, a homeopathic detox kit should include the following remedies for handy use. Different potencies should be used for acute conditions and regular detoxification.

* Nux Vomica – helps stimulate intestines.
* Bryonia Alba – Provides overall digestive support.
* Lycopodium Clavatum – Supports the lymphatic system.
* Fumaria Officinalis - Prevents toxicity and purifies blood.
* Calcarea Phosphorica - Helps maintain a balanced metabolism.
* Natrum Sulphuricum - Improves constitution and water retention.
* Berberis Vulgaris - Stimulates the kidneys and gallbladder.
* Colocynthis - Stimulates the body’s natural process of elimination of toxins, both internal and external

Homeopathy is not a symptomatic treatment. It does not seek to remove the symptoms. On the other hand, it does study the symptoms to arrive at the right remedy that needs to be prescribed. In most cases, homeopathic medicines need to be taken over a protracted period, usually two to three weeks, for perceptible results to appear.

There are quite a few detox products that allege to contain homeopathic remedies. However, due to its holistic nature, homeopathic remedies need to be monitored by a specialist. Regular visits are required for frequent changes that may be necessitated. In fact this aspect deters many patients to discontinue treatment.

Herbal teas that detox

June 20th, 2009 -- Posted in Herbal Remedies, Natural Detox Remedies, Natural Remedies | No Comments »

Prevalence of impurities in the environment, modern diet and lifestyle has made it necessary for us to give prime importance to the concept of detoxification.

Detoxification was not so pertinent for our ancestors. Because even though they were exposed to natural toxins, they had a systematic procedure of regular detox treatment. The treatment was in the form of periodic fasting and herbal detox. And these were enough to take care of their detoxification needs since their body did not have to fight extreme levels of toxins and pollutants.

Instead of going back to our roots, with every new challenge that we faced, we have increased our dependence on drugs and medicines. Rampant use of recreational and banned drugs is a serious threat to normal functioning of the body’ detox system. The levels of our exposure to toxins has increased to such an extent that the natural detoxification system of the body is unable to cope with the pressure and more often than not, it buckles under pressure.

Most of the toxicity in the body is due to synthetic substances. It is better therefore, to take recourse to a natural detox program that uses natural detox remedies that are based on age old proven formulas.

Herbal teas have been used as part of many herbal detox programs because of their healing properties. They obviously also have the benefit of being great tasting too.

The list of herbs used in herbal teas is endless. Different permutations and combinations of curative herbs provide a variety of herbal teas that help in speeding up the detoxification process.

Cardamom seed, black peppercorn, cinnamon bark, clove bud and ginger root is added to green tea to make specific concoctions for individual conditions in India. These herbs are excellent for colon and blood cleansing.

Honeysuckle, cimicifuga, green tea and jasmine flower are the specific herbs added in traditional Chinese tea for natural detoxification of the body.

Herbal teas with constituents like milk thistle, sarsparilla root, dandelion root, Echinacea and red clover stimulate the liver to improve its toxin-removing functionality.

Other herbs used to make herbal teas include:

* Dandelion root
* Burdock root
* Fenne seed
* Juniper berry
* Licorice root
* Orange peel
* Pau d’ Arco inner bark
* Sassafras root
* Uva Ursi leaf
* Horsetail herb
* Dandelion leaf
* Parsley leaf

In the past few years herbal tea has gained immense popularity as a detox product in the western world. There is an old saying in the east that, “excess of everything is bad”. Even though the use of herbal teas is highly recommended, care should be taken to avoid excessive use. It is pertinent that these herbs be used under the guidance of a trained person. This is because some herbs should not be used by pregnant or nursing women, people who have gallstones, breast, uterine cancer or an autoimmune disease.

Detox treatment

June 20th, 2009 -- Posted in Herbal Remedies, Natural Detox Remedies, Natural Remedies | No Comments »

Modern day life has resulted in an exponential increase in our exposure to chemicals, drugs and pollutants. Indiscriminate use of antibiotics, over dependence on alcohol and a fast lifestyle have all contributed to making out bodies unhealthy. The modern generation seems to have forgotten that to get to the top of the rat race we need a healthy mind coupled with a healthy body.

Our body’s detoxification system comprises of the digestive and urinary systems, skin, lungs and liver. It is a perfect system in which the organs supplement and complement each other. There is, however, a limit to how much it can be stretched.

What happens is this. The frontline defense of the intestines is broken due to the large quantities of toxins that enter our body. This intake can happen through food, exposure to the environment, drinking water and other points of contact. The breakdown of the function of the intestines leads to a condition where the liver needs to work more than its capacity.

Over time, if the level of toxins is not reduced, the toxins start to leak out of the intestinal walls into the blood stream. And a situation like this causes diseases like bowel toxaemia (blood poisoning caused by bacterial toxic substances in the blood) and candidiasis (an infection caused by fungi). These diseases are characterized by symptoms like diabetes, chronic constipation, vaginal thrush, loss of libido and increase in blood cholesterol.

Though you may find many quick remedies being advertised, the process of detox treatment needs a holistic approach. A detox product can of help only if it is taken as a supplementary treatment and as part of an overall detox program.

Some natural detox treatments include fasting. Fasting is a natural process for cleaning the colon of toxic substances and this has been used in different societies across the world. For people who cannot fast, a fruit juice diet can also help in cleansing the colon.

Herbal detox remedies include herbal tablets for liver cleansing. Organic diets in conjunctions with herbal treatments help in getting rid of the yeast that cause candidiasis.

A detox treatment is much more than just popping in a detox product. It is almost a lifestyle that you need to lead to rid your body of all the impurities that have been accumulating over the years. It is also pertinent that you continue the process of a detox diet even after you have cleansed your system once. This is essential since the yeast and toxins can reappear due to contact with the environment.

In context of natural detox remedies, implies a regulated diet that is organic in nature. Some of the precautions that are recommended for an effective detox treatment would include the following:

* Preservatives - Avoid foods that contain preservatives. A close look at the label can tell you if the food contains preservative or not.
* Sugar – Avoid sugar consumption. If you cannot avoid it totally, limit the consumption.
* Fresh is the best - Certain food items require to be kept at low temperatures. Such products are best bought directly from the store rather than home delivered.
* Pure water - Stick to filtered or bottled water.
* Keep your household free of chemical pollutants.
* Learn about organic foods and try to use them as much as possible.
* Exercise - It is one of the best detox remedies as it helps to burn toxins in the body.
* Dentistry - Choose a holistic dentist who will ensure that no mercury amalgam is used.
